Arthur Hugh Mead was born in 1939 and educated at Haileybury and King’s College, Cambridge, where he was a Foundation Scholar. He was Lightfoot Scholar in Ecclesiastical History in 1961. He was a postgraduate student at Oxford (B. Litt. 1966).
After two years as Senior History Master at Karachi Grammar School, he taught at St Paul’s School for over thirty years, and was successively Head of History and Chaplain and Head of Religious Studies. He founded St Paul’s School Croquet Club. Ordained in 1980, he was Priest in Ordinary to H.M. The Queen from 1990 to 1995 and since 1995 has been Deputy Priest in Ordinary and Reader of the Temple. He has published a history of St Paul’s School and articles on the New Testament, G.K. Chesterton and John Colet. He and his wife Judith, whom he married in 1966, have two daughters.
