Temple Youth Choir

Temple Youth Choir is a project-based choir for young singers aged 14-22. It is a place for ambitious young musicians to sing high quality music at professional standard, singing alongside professional mentors, and meeting new and like-minded friends along the way. The choir is run and coached by members of the Temple Church music department and by our team of professional singers acting as mentors. Choristers are highly skilled young musicians who often miss the music, routine and skills development they were used to as choristers. Temple Youth Choir is a place where these skills can be put to good use.

Many members of the choir are former choristers and choral scholars of Temple Church and other churches, chapels and Cathedrals, but the choir is open to anyone with singing experience and music reading skills.

The choir is project-based to fit with the busy lives of the members. The choir meets for 2 or 3 intensive rehearsals before each performance, meaning that it can fit alongside other commitments and school exams.

Temple Youth Choir is ambitious and can tackle challenging music in a friendly learning environment. Quick learning and part singing is important but music is sent out in advance of the rehearsals.

Typically the Youth choir performs twice or three times a year, with a major concert in the autumn term and a choral evensong and workshop in the spring and summer.

Ancient chants and toe-tapping rhythms collide in this unique event journeying through a millennium of early Latin and Hispanic sacred Christmas music treasures, including the UK premiere of a villancico by Cuban Baroque composer, Esteban Salas. Joined by a stellar line-up of pre-eminent Hispanic soloists, the groundbreaking Medieval specialist Idrîsî Ensemble join forces with the Monteverde Consort to celebrate vibrant, festive songs from Spain and Latin America, interlacing Amerindian and Afro styles with the entrancing, mystical sounds of the Roman world. Inspired by our historic c.1163 venue, the Temple Church, the group will also revive music from the site’s earliest days, including a 12th-century chant associated with the Knights Templar who established this place as their spiritual home.
