Thrice to Rome

Dramatized reading of a play written by Norman Doe about Gerald of Wales in Rome before the court of Pope Innocent III in 1200-03.
A tale of canonical intrigue, Church and State in conflict and an epic clash between the church in Wales and England.  Set in the Temple Church, which was consecrated in 1185 and where negotiations which led to the sealing of Magna Carta in 1215 took place during Gerald of Wales’ lifetime, the play raises issues of contemporary relevance about nationhood, justice and law.
The cast of Thrice to Rome includes a former Lord Chancellor and a Lord Chief Justice of England & Wales as well as a group of current canon lawyers, joined by staff of the Temple Church.
